The Ministry of Information and Technology in Pakistan is gearing up to launch the ‘Smartphone for All’ initiative, designed to enhance smartphone accessibility for the public through convenient instalment plans.
This strategic move addresses financial challenges exacerbated by inflation, providing individuals with the opportunity to acquire smartphones without a significant upfront payment. The initiative focuses on promoting responsible financial behaviour and expanding smartphone accessibility for citizens facing financial constraints, allowing telecom companies in Pakistan to offer mobile phones through leasing plans and making mobile broadband accessible to a wider audience.
The ‘Smartphone for All’ project aims to provide smartphones to all citizens in Pakistan, contributing to economic stimulation and fostering increased e-commerce usage.
Application Process:
Under the GSMA ‘Smartphone for All’ scheme, individuals can obtain smartphones valued between Rs10,000 to Rs100,000 through easy instalments spanning 3-12 months.
Eligibility Criteria:
Citizens with valid ID cards, including students, professionals, and individuals with low incomes, are eligible to participate.
Interest-Free Instalments:
Pakistanis can acquire smartphones on interest-free instalments with a minimum 20 percent down payment.
Given that Pakistan ranks as the seventh-largest global mobile phone market with 190 million mobile phones in use, the ‘Smartphone for All’ project aims to bridge the digital divide, making smartphones accessible to a diverse range of citizens. For updates and online applications, individuals are encouraged to follow the Ministry of Information and Technology’s platform, aligning with the overarching goal of promoting digital inclusivity and leveraging technology for economic growth.
